NATO Tiger Meet
International military flying units with a tiger in their logo get together once a year to conduct tactical flying exercises. The participants were from fighter and helicopter units from NATO Allies Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, Partner Austria and a NATO AWACS
American Air Power Museum
Full Disc Aviation was fortunate to attend Saturday flight ops for the 2019 Jones Beach Airshow at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, Long Island, operating from Republic Airport. The Thunderbirds were staged at a different location, but the VFA-106 Navy F/A-18 Tac Demo team used Republic Airport, as did the US Army Golden Knights.
Warbirds Over The Beach
Every year, the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach hosts their Warbirds Over The Beach event. As the name suggests, this event will satisfy any warbird enthusiast. With an amazing vintage collection of everything from trainers to bombers to fighters, it is hard to leave disappointed. Full Disc Aviation was fortunate to be able to cover the flying activities this year from numerous angles.
Greenwood Lake
Full Disc Aviation’s Ryan Tykosh and Richard Souza were on hand to cover the 2019 edition of the Greenwood Lake (NJ) Airshow. The performers present at this year’s event included Scott Francis, Jason Flood, Tom Larkin Mini Jet Airshows and Jerry McCart in the jet-powered pick-up truck “The Homewrecker”.
WWII Weekend
A phalanx of Full Disc Aviation photographers descended on Reading, PA for the 2019 WWII Weekend, and the weather was perfect all weekend. We shot the show from a variety of perspectives, using much of the surrounding terrain to shoot from. The show included the usual suspects like the CAF Dixie Wing airplanes, a myriad of WWII training aircraft…
Dayton
With a poor weather outlook leading up to the weekend, things were looking a bit gloomy. But the storms held off, allowing for high ceilings, cool temperatures, and lots of sunshine. The 44th annual Vectren Dayton Airshow had the perfect weekend! The USAF Thunderbirds were this year's headliners, with much to prove.
Ocean City
I attended the Ocean City Airshow in mid-June, but due to unforeseen circumstances I was only able to attend the Friday practice show. I was able to get a look down the beach on Saturday but was miles from the show box, rendering me a few unique images. My main focus was the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, as it was my first time seeing their majestic display, and they nearly got through their whole show on Friday.
Geneseo
Zulu recently travelled up to the Finger Lakes region of New York State to attend the National Warplane Museum’s annual airshow. Held at the grass field airport in the town of Geneseo, this show is affectionately known as "The Greatest Show on Turf”. This year's edition brought a lineup, flying, and attendance like it has not seen in recent years.
RIAT
The Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom is the largest military airshow in the World. Taking place annually over the third weekend of July, this year’s show saw 245 static and flying aircraft representing 26 different countries and 39 military air arms including circa 40 “civilian” aircraft also joining.
Cleveland
No matter your legacy or your headliners, mother nature yields to no one. This Labor Day weekend was no exception. I stepped onto the property of Burke Lakefront Airport Sunday with excitement for demonstration teams I’d never seen before, as well as my last opportunity to see the legendary Julie Clark on her farewell tour.
New Garden
This intimate, homegrown show featured hard-hitting aerobatic routines from Scott Francis in his MX-S and Jason Flood in two different acts; a Cub comedy show and "The Red Ghost" Pitts performance, a slew of light aircraft, a parade of vintage military trainers, Mark Merideth in the Super Chipmunk and Kevin Russo in the T-6. Mark Murphy also flew a spirited P-51 Mustang display, the inboard gun ports howling with each pass.
New York
Full Disc Aviation was able to attend three whole days of New York Airshow action from a plethora of vantage points and against a number of cloudscapes a few months ago. This airshow included the prerequisite warbirds such as a B-25 and P-51, L-39 and the like, and included stunt flyer mainstays such as Mike Whiskus and Kent Pietsch in their incredible routines respectively
St. Louis
St. Louis is a proud aviation town with a rich aviation heritage. Boeing’s defense operations are based here, and they employ around 14,500 people to build new F-15’s, F-18’s, EA-18G’s and the newly announced trainer for the Air Force, the T-7A Red Hawk, that would make its first airshow appearance.
Reno Air Race
As beautiful as the aircraft were, the racing was intense. And, because it is racing and therefore “uncooperative formation flying,” there is occasional contact as there was in the Thursday morning Formula One heat between The Kraken and Last Lap Player. Most classes started racing drag style with the planes lined up two to three wide on Runway 8….
NAS Lemoore
When the US Navy’s largest Rhino base hosts an airshow, you do not miss it. This was the first airshow at NAS Lemoore since the Centennial of Naval Aviation show in 2011; and it featured a robust lineup. Performing were the US Navy Blue Angels, Patriots Jet Team, The Fleet Air Power Demo, CA ANG 75th Anniversary Jet, Skyhawk 518, and many others.
