Air Power Over Hampton Roads

Prose & Photography: Chris Rose

After a five year hiatus, Joint Base Langley-Eustis held their Air Power Over Hampton Roads airshow. Utilizing a hybrid on base/off base parking scheme, the organizers did a good job streamlining traffic in and out of the base with only a few hangups with security screenings. The local area showed their support for the Air Force, and airshows in general, by showing up in droves. I haven't seen attendance numbers, but from where I was standing it looked like a large crowd. My personal highlight of this show was seeing the new Warbird Thunder act. They are a local crew, and they practice not too far from Langley. I can sometimes hear them flying to their practice box from my house. They showcased their precision formation work in their SNJ Texans, and made their first airshow one to remember!
